My dr said my muscles around my eyes are tense and need to relax. He suggested accupuncture. Can i buy the needles and put them in my sinus area on my own? Is there a good book that shows you where to put them? Hi Toni, This is a good question. I would always say that you should never do acupuncture on yourself unless you are a trained, licensed acupuncturist, but there are a lot of other things that you can do on your own like acupressure acupuncture without the needles and massage.
What I would suggest is to find an acupuncturist and do an initial consultation where they will figure out what imbalances you are suffering from and be able to guide you in terms of things you can do to help yourself, like what foods to eat, exercises, meditation and what acupressure points you can do on yourself.
This is one of the wonderful things about acupuncture and Chinese medicine, is that the participation of the patient and educating them on how to change things in their lives in order to be more balanced is what it is all about. However, I would like to be able to continue to do some acupuncture for people like myself or my mom now that I am back in the states. Part of healing is creating time and space for yourself.
You need a neutral space where the intention is focused solely on your healing. The benefit of a therapeutic relationship with a skilled healthcare provider cannot be underestimated.
They provide the space for you to express yourself, offer encouraging feedback, and genuinely want you to be the best person you can be. Reach out to a trained healthcare provider, be it an acupuncturist, naturopath, therapist, or whatever speaks to you.
I think 90 minutes of care is a great way to show loving kindness to oneself and is something we do not do enough of in Western society. Allowing someone to help you heal allows you to just do your best to relax in it. I always, always feel much more grounded after therapy.
Thanks for the feedback, Lisa! I completely agree. Everyone needs to be supported for growth and healing to occur. I feel the same way about my acupuncturist!
And I totally agree about the patient-practitioner relationship. Your email address will not be published. It could be physical pain, stress, cravings, fear, a limiting belief. Rate its intensity level from one to 10, with 10 being the highest, just so you can check for changes in intensity as you go.
Next, compose a "set-up statement". This always starts with "Even though…" and ends with a powerful affirmation. Hollinger explains: "If you're targeting stress, your set-up statement might be, 'Even though I'm feeling really stressed today, I deeply love and accept myself'. Repeat the set-up statement three times while tapping on the "karate chop point", or the soft edge of your hand just below your pinkie.
You can then move on to doing "rounds". For example, researchers have found that acupuncture was as effective as mental health counseling in the treatment of moderate to severe depression. Other studies show its usefulness in treating anxiety. It makes people feel like they are taking control of their own health. Learn more about vaccine availability.
