So turn off the gas stove top and put the blowtorches and flamethrowers away. Seriously, heat guns are not that expensive. If you're covering a long length of cable with tubing, begin shrinking at one end, and gradually work your way down to the other.
To ensure that the tubing shrinks evenly and without air bubbles, rotate the project as you're applying heat. Evenly apply heat over the length and around the diameter of the tubing, until it is uniformly shrunken and conforms to the shape of the cable, hose, splice or action figure that it's covering. Immediately remove the heat source, and allow the tubing to cool slowly before you apply physical stress to it.
Make sure to avoid over-heating. The last thing you want is charred, brittle heat shrink tubing after you've spent all that time and dragon breath. Tip: Silicone lubricant spray can be applied to wires or cords to guide heat shrink over them without compromising the heat shrink material. Need help? Sign In. Brands Hellermann Tyton Signamax Inc. Follow our guide to caring for your corduroy pants to keep your cords in tip-top shape. Otherwise, our guide to washing and caring for corduroys is good for most corduroy garments. Certain styles of corduroy pants that are blended with other fabrics, such as corduroy leggings , may also require other protocols for care, so always check garment labels before washing!
Before washing, zip and button your corduroy pants, and turn them inside-out. Turning pants inside-out before washing is generally a good practice, but with corduroys in particular, it helps to protect the longevity of the fabric and the vibrancy of the color. Washing pants right-side-out can, over time, cause fading or dulling of the fabric and color. Stain removal can be a tricky business, and techniques can change depending on the material. The ridging of the corduroy fabric can sometimes catch and lock the stain between the ribs, making it harder to reach.
We recommend using an equal part detergent mixed with water, applying to the stain, and then scrubbing. Use a soft scrubber, like a sponge or toothbrush, to get in-between the cords to ensure the detergent reaches the entire surface area.
Alternatively, you can scrub standard stain remover into the fabric with a toothbrush or gentle brush. The key to corduroy looking like new after each wear is to give it special attention and properly launder it. Corduroy pants can be washed at home if you turn them inside out to protect the textured side nap from matting down. Before washing, read the care label to make sure the fabric is machine washable. Keep color in mind when choosing a water temperature. Choose a gentle cycle and if your corduroy is dark, wash in cold water.
Tumble dry on extra low for just a bit then hang them to dry. Or, you could hang them to dry then tumble for ten minutes on extra-low in the dryer to fluff the nap of the corduroy and make it soft.
