Literature Circles. Movie Guides. Novel Study. How does setting affect the story? Setting affects the story by contributing to the plot, character development, mood, and theme. It also affects the story by engaging the reader and helping them visualize the events and context in which the narrative is being told. You know that plot is what happens in a story and that setting is when and where it takes place.
You also know that in real life, the setting is the time and place in which we live, and the plot is what happens in our lives. The setting is extremely important to a story. Setting affects the story by contributing to the plot, character development, mood, and theme. It also affects the story by engaging the reader and helping them visualize the events and context in which the narrative is being told.
The setting can be rife with problems that prevent your protagonist from solving her problems and even add to her internal conflicts. These environmental conflicts are the issues and situations that make it harder for the protagonist to face the challenges of the novel. The setting is the time and place of the of the story. A building of interest or suspense occurs.
All rising action leads to the climax. Setting can affect characters in literature in any number of ways. In a setting of war, there are many examples of how conflict is created for the character.
For instance, a story set during a sunny day will be predisposed to a happy or carefree mood, while a story set in a haunted house will be predisposed to a sense of tension or fear.
It can create obstacles for the characters. It can motivate the events of a story. Social conditions, historical time, geographical locations, weather, immediate surroundings, and timing are all different aspects of setting. There are three major components to setting: social environment, place, and time.
Elements of setting may include culture, historical period, geography, and hour. Along with the plot, character, theme, and style, setting is considered one of the fundamental components of fiction. The setting of a story can change throughout the plot. The environment includes geographical location such as beach or mountains, the climate and weather, and the social or cultural aspects such as a school, theatre, meeting, club, etc.
The realistic settings are used for real-time realistic effects in the scene. Enabling these options can quickly add realism to the scene without the need to perform a full realistic rendering which normally task a fair amount of time. The elements of setting — time, place, mood, social and cultural context — help to make a novel feel real and alive. These stories resemble real life, and fictional characters within these stories react similarly to real people.
